Follow-up Master's study program "Public Administration"

The follow-on master's course in Public Administration follows on from the bachelor's course of the same name, which has been successfully established for a long time at the Faculty of Law of the ZCU. The master's degree in the field of public administration is a response to the growing demands for the quality and professional preparation of public administration workers - among other things, in connection with the adoption of the so-called service law. It is not only about acquiring advanced knowledge and skills in the field of public administration, but perhaps above all about the ability of public administration workers to see the exercise of public power and related processes in a wider professional context – legal, social, economic, geographical, political and international. The second important impulse of the follow-up master's field is also the growing importance of the European dimension of public administration. This no longer takes place only on the territory of the given nation-state, but due to the application of the principle of subsidiarity, increasingly often also within the institutional structure of the European Union. Czech universities, which deal with the education of future civil servants, must adequately respond to this fact and prepare future public administration workers both for the influence of European legislation on their "domestic" activities and for their possible work in European institutions. Among other things, this also means increased participation not only of academic experts on European legal and administrative issues, but also cooperation with experts who are already working in European institutions at this time. The third important impulse of the master's degree in the field of public administration is, not least, the growing need for such a field on the part of a number of state administration bodies and especially local and regional self-governments, with whom the Faculty of Law of the University of West Bohemia has been cooperating for a long time and where our graduates get their job placements.

The Faculty of Law of ZČU - and especially its Department of Public Administration - is the only public institution that provides education and professional training for state and local government officials in the geographically wide area of the Pilsen Region, Karlovy Vary Region, South Bohemia Region and parts of the Central Bohemia and Ústí Regions, which are mainly adjacent with Pilsen and Karlovy Vary. At the same time, its clients are also employees of the security forces of the Czech Republic. In particular, for the preparation of management staff, but also for experts who are engaged in the preparation of analytical and conceptual materials, it is necessary that they also obtain a higher level of university education.
