Doctoral studies

The Faculty of Law at ZČU has an accredited doctoral study program "Theoretical Legal Sciences," with a specialization in "Civil Law."

  • Study program number: P6801
  • Mode of study: Full-time
  • Standard duration of study: 4 years
  • Accreditation valid until: 2028
  • Accreditation decision number: NAU - 197/2018 -8

The aim of the program is to deepen theoretical knowledge in the field of civil law in its broadest contexts resulting from its new codification. This prepares the graduate to independently analyze civil law issues not only de lege lata (according to the law as it stands) but also de lege ferenda (according to what the law ought to be). Based on this, the graduate will also acquire the foundations of independent scientific and pedagogical work. Graduates will be able to work primarily in the academic field, either as independent researchers or as teaching staff. Thanks to their deep theoretical knowledge, they will also be able to apply their skills at a high professional level in legislative and application practice, especially as drafters of legislative proposals, judges, lawyers, or notaries and executors. Their language skills will enable them to engage in international relations, particularly in the fields of science or legal practice. The education obtained and the skills and knowledge acquired based on it will be utilized by graduates with employers such as universities, scientific institutes, public authorities (especially courts), or employers within the structures of the EU, if not working as self-employed professionals.
